Job Description

Currently recruiting a Substance Abuse Counselor (Certified Addictions Counselor) supporting the Mental Health Clinic and Substance Abuse and Rehab (SARP), Deployment Wellness Clinic, and Wounded Warrior Clinic. The Substance Abuse Counselor (Certified Addictions Counselor) will be based at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC. Hours of service: Mon - Fri, between the hours of 6: 00AM and 6: 00PM

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR (CERTIFIED ADDICTIONS COUNSELOR):
  • Associate of Arts degree in a behavioral science with specialized training in substance abuse and chemical dependency treatment or completion of the Navy Drug and Alcohol Program Management Activity School that leads to Navy Certification as Navy Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor.
  • Possess and maintain a current, unrestricted license or certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor in the State of North Carolina that is accredited by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board (NCSAPPB). Candidate cannot hold the status of INTERN.
  • Possess a minimum of 1 year experience within the preceding 2 years as a Substance Abuse Counselor in a Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program, which includes male and female clients.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Addictions Counselor.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen (for access to Gov' t computer systems)
DUTIES OF THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR (CERTIFIED ADDICTIONS COUNSELOR):
  • Perform a full range of Certified Addiction Counselor duties, in accordance with assignment and consistent with the scope of practice for profession, including but not limited to, medical care treatment and patient education in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
  • Obtain or provide relevant information that will facilitate treatment and assist in developing programs.
  • Provide assessment of substance abuse and addiction.
  • Identify and document medical consequences of alcohol and other substance use, including withdrawal and detoxification.
  • Facilitate the placement and management of patients in appropriate levels of care within the continuum of care model of the treatment of addictive disorders
