Job Description
Currently recruiting a Substance Abuse Counselor / Licensed Addictions Counselor to work in the Behavioral Health Clinic or sub-clinics (SARP, Deployment Wellness) at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, North Carolina, providing care to Active Duty heroes, their families, and retirees. DUTIES OF THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR:
- Perform a full range of Substance Abuse Counselor/Licensed Addiction Counselor duties, consistent with scope of practice for profession, including but not limited to, medical care and treatment and patient education in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.
- Obtain or provide relevant information that will facilitate treatment, assist in developing programs, and service delivery relating to the SARP.
- Provide assessment of substance abuse and addiction.
- Provide assessment of patient' s issues in addiction.
- Identify and document medical consequences of alcohol and other substance use, including withdrawal and detoxification.
- Facilitate the placement and management of patients in appropriate levels of care within the continuum of care model of the treatment of addictive disorders.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR:
- Associate of Arts degree in a behavioral science with specialized training in substance abuse and chemical dependency treatment or completion of the Navy Drug and Alcohol Program Management Activity School that leads to Navy Certification as Navy Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor.
- Maintain a national certification credential by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors or National Board of Certification Counselors or International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse.
- Provide two letters of reference written within the preceding two years from a manager, director direct supervisor of a Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program, attesting to the health care worker s clinical skills in counseling males and females.
- One year of experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor after graduation.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Addictions Counselor.
- Must be U.S. Citizen (for access to Gov' t computer systems)
