Currently recruiting a Registered Nurse Case Manager to provide care to Active Duty heroes, their families, and retirees at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Neurosurgery Clinic, Bethesda, Maryland. Schedule is an 8 hour day, M - F, between the hours of 0600 - 2300. Services are required on federal holidays.
SPECIFIC DUTIES/TASKS THE CONTRACT EMPLOYEE SHALL PERFORM:
Attends and participates in patient nursing reports, patient care conferences, team/unit/clinic
conferences, discharge planning, and staff conferences as deemed appropriate.
Maintain and document inpatient and outpatient medical records IA W with DoD policies
and procedures appropriate to the function. Medical records will be subject to review by the
appropriate committees and service.
Know documentation requirements and MTF policies regarding the release of information to
outside agencies. Prepare correspondence and summaries to a variety of requestors, such as
the Veterans Administration and Social Security Administration.
Practice clinical case management including client assessment, plan of care development,
implementation, documentation and evaluation. As a healthcare resource, expertly interface
with clinical care team members to facilitate cost efficient and quality interventions. Make
recommendations to ensure patients receive medically necessary appropriate care in the
appropriate clinical setting. Perform as a consultant to other committees and task forces as
needed regarding case management issues.
Utilize organizational Case Management (CM) guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure
compliance with DoD, Joint Commission and MTF requirements.
Ensure quality of care issues are documented and reported to appropriate personnel and
corrective action is taken.
Quality Improvement shall include the following responsibilities:
o Assist in quality improvement data collection and review
o Help with problem solving regarding quality improvement issues
o Participate in multidisciplinary functional groups and process action teams as needed
o Uphold established patient care and practice standards
o Participate in ongoing review of clinic policies and procedures and make appropriate
revisions as required
o Review and submit reports as required
o Participate in all mandatory training
Responds to cardiopulmonary arrest as appropriate and arranges appropriate back up from
the MTF clinical staff and/or from Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE REGISTERED NURSE CASE MANAGER:
HCW Qualifications (Contract PWS 5.2;5.2.3;5.2.4;5.2.6.4.4):
Degree/Education (5.2.4): Must be a Registered Nurse, possess and maintain a valid,
unrestricted state license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any state in the United States,
District of Columbia or United States territory.
Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): In addition to BLS Advanced
Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) if required by client. Should have and maintain current
certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), certification must be by American Heart
Association and individual must demonstrate ability to initiate CPR in event of respirator or
cardiopulmonary arrest. Certificate must be renewed every year at no cost to the
Government.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience within the preceding three (3) Years in
designated Specialty, have a working knowledge of CPT/ICD-9/10 codes. Possess a working
knowledge of military culture, customs and procedures including military profiles and
retention of Active Duty Personnel, ability to effectively communicate with health providers
at all levels and to provide professional assistance to health care finders in making referrals
to appropriate health care providers.
