Job Description
Currently recruiting a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) to work in the Mental Health Department at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton near Oceanside, California. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner may work in any of the behavioral health clinics or sub clinics. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a full-time position, with services normally required Mon - Fri, excluding federal holidays, between the hours of 6AM - 6PM. DUTIES OF THE PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER:
- The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner shall perform a full range of duties consistent with their labor category, education, training, experience, clinical privileges (e.G., technically direct and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
- Treat patients with common acute conditions, illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in collaboration with a physician.
- Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
- Order diagnostic tests as applicable.
- Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
- Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
- In collaboration with the mental health staff, provide assessment, evaluation, consultation, examination, differential diagnosis and treatment planning for the following disorders defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders
- The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner may be required to travel once a week to provide temporary services at local clinics associated with Camp Pendleton.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER:
- Degree: Master' s degree (or higher) in nursing.
- Minimum one year of full-time experience within the last two as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner that includes prescribing psychiatric medications.
- Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Possess and maintain current certification as an Adult or Psychiatric-Mental Health Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse.
- Have successfully completed 30 hours of education in pharmacology for advance nursing practice.
- Possess current DEA registration number
- U.S. Citizen (for access to Government computer systems).
