Job Description
Licensed Practical Nurse ( LPN ) to work in the Pain Management Clinic at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, near Jacksonville, NC. The Licensed Practical Nurse - Pain Management Clinic will provide medical care for Active Duty military heroes, their family members, and retirees. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position is full-time, 8 hr shifts, Monday - Friday, between 0700 - 1730. DUTIES OF THE LPN - PAIN MANAGEMENT CLINIC:
- Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures.
- Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
- Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient s condition before, during, and following the procedure.
- Ensure patient care is carried out in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Care and the policies and procedures of the clinic.
- Check patients into the clinic and triage using clinic guidelines. Inform the nurse, physician extender or physician of the patient s condition and potential problems.
- Obtain and document patient and pertinent family history.
- Assist the physician in a variety of diagnostic examinations such as lumber punctures, colposcopies and sigmoidoscopies, by preparing, positioning and monitoring patients, and setting out and handling instruments and equipment.
- Perform a range of treatment procedures that include sterile dressing changes, applying compresses, monitoring IV fluids, inserting catheters and suctions, inserting nasogastric tubes, administering medications, giving enemas, setting up and giving treatment that requires auxiliary equipment such as oxygen and suction.
- Provide care coordination using specific criteria and guidelines as mandated by DoD, Navy, and TRICARE directives, coordinating with the local Medical Home Port (MHP) Clinic, utilization and Referral Management policies.
- Consult, coordinate, and collaborate with MHP team members, referral management team members, specialty care clinics, outside care professionals, agencies, organizations and other ancillary support systems to assist in the care coordination of MHP patients.
- Identifies patients in need of care coordination within the MHP teams, through screening patients with a pattern of high risk, unstable and resource intensive utilization of Military Treatment Facility (MTF) or network services such as chronic pain patients.
- Responsible for coordination of outpatient care services of patients belonging to the MHP clinic area of responsibility that are discharged from other facilities.
- Participate in an on-site designated Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) tele-mentoring training program.
- Participate in tele-mentoring, tele-medicine, and tele-consults.
- Assist the Physician with the placement of radiology equipment (C-arm) for medical procedures that require imaging guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE LICENSED PRACTICAL/VOCATIONAL NURSE - PAIN MANAGEMENT CLINIC:
- Possess a minimum of 1 year of full-time clinical experience within the last 2 years as a LPN/LVN
- Certificate degree or higher.
- Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In lieu of graduation from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) educational program, the nurse may be a graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse educational program.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license (any state or U.S. Territory) to practice as an LPN or LVN.
