Bilingual Child Caregiver (Spanish/English)
Job Description
Currently recruiting a Bilingual Child Caregiver in McAllen, Texas, to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) operations involving minors in CBP custody, including unaccompanied children (UAC) and children in family units (FMUA). Caregivers are responsible for providing continuous supervision and general care to assigned minors in CBP facilities on a 24 hour, 7 day a week basis, in strict accordance with CBP policies and procedures. This job is contingent on contract award by CBP.
SHIFT REQUIREMENTS OF THE BILINGUAL CHILD CAREGIVER
- 12-hour shifts: 6am-6pm or 6pm-6am (shift times cannot be moved)
- Work 3.5 days per week: Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday
- Weekend and Holiday work required.
- Due to shift availability, new employees WILL be required to start on night shift.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS OF THE BILINGUAL CHILD CAREGIVER
- Bilingual in Spanish & English.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Personnel must be suitable to work in CBP facilities, including passing background checks.
- U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident status and have resided in the U.S. For 3 of the past 5 years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF THE BILINGUAL CHILD CAREGIVER
- Experience with children in child welfare or social service setting.
- CPR Certification
DUTIES OF THE BILINGUAL CHILD CAREGIVER
- Provide direct supervision and general care to assigned minors at all times.
- Maintain the safety and well being of children in CBP custody.
- Ensure children are treated in a humane, respectful, and professional manner.
- Maintain continuous visual supervision of assigned children.
- Assist with and monitor children s personal hygiene activities, rest and sleeping periods, meal periods, and recreation and quiet activities.
- Escort and supervise children during movement within the facility as directed.
- Observe and immediately report health, safety, or welfare concerns to supervisors or CBP personnel.
- Accurately complete all required logs, reports, and documentation.
- Comply with all CBP rules, policies, procedures, and instructions governing caregiver activities.
- Work cooperatively with supervisors, CBP staff, and other caregivers.
- Perform related duties as directed by supervisory personnel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE BILINGUAL CHILD CAREGIVER
- Must be able to sit for more than 12 hours per day
- Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet
- Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders
- Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear
- Must be able to work 12-hour shifts
