Job Description
Currently recruiting an Speech Language Pathologist to provide care to active duty military members and their families at the Intrepid Spirit Center, Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Speech Language Pathologist is a full-time position, 80 hours per two weeks, 8 or 10 hour day shifts, Mon. - Fri., between 6: 00 AM to 6: 00 PM. Full benefits, including 22 days paid vacation/sick leave and 11 paid Federal holidays.
DUTIES OF THE SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST:
- Perform with the highest level of clinical expertise, providing precedent-setting diagnoses, treatment, and case management to patients suffering from the most severe speech disorders and impairments, referred to the Center following failed treatment plans at other tertiary care centers.
- Design, develop, and apply new approaches and innovative methods of problem-solving in the evaluation, treatment, management, rehabilitation, and resolution of unique caseload assignments.
- Function across the gamut of speech language pathology activities, required of the population. Applies innovative diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical trial techniques, developed exclusively within the Center or with strategic partners, for potential application across DoD.
- Document and develop clinical practice guidelines, evidence-based practice standards of care, templates, testing guidelines, and development/employment of off label use of technologies, frequently adapted by DoD, Veteran s Administration, and civilian colleagues.
- Apply advance scientific methodologies in the design and execution of novel and innovative research in the speech pathology field.
- Participate in advanced clinical research projects, relative to diagnostic evaluation, treatment and/or rehabilitation of communication and swallowing disorders.
- Participate in the development of protocols to investigate efficacy and effectiveness of new clinical tests, clinical practice guidelines, and standards of care. Services as a role model for effective speech pathology test practice skills.
- Complete training to obtain knowledge and maintain competency in the following systems:
- MHS Genesis, Dragon dictation software, and Microsoft Office programs.
- Comply with regulatory, MTF, and Joint Commission quality inspection/ peer review/utilization management requirements, and applicable system applications.
- Contractor employees shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. Contractor employees shall only use DoD approved abbreviations for documentation in the patient health records. (DoDI 6025.13 and DoDM 6055.05)
- Document and close notes in MHS Genesis within three (3) business days of patient encounters.
- Respond to beneficiary messages submitted and received in the MHS Genesis secure portal systems within one (1) business day.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST:
- Education: Graduation from a college or university that includes at 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology academic program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American-Speech Language Hearing Association).
- Master s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communications Sciences and Disorders, or directly related field from an accredited program of the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association (ASHA).
- Certifications: Basic Life Support
- Board Certification: National certification (Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association).
- Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a speech language pathologist.
- Internship/Residency: N/A
- Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements as specified in the credentialing instruction.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen (for access to Gov't computer systems).
