Job Description

Currently recruiting a Psychiatric Technician in Stone Bay, North Carolina, (near Jacksonville) to work at Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) Headquarters. The Psychiatric Technician provides care for our nation s active duty service members. The Psychiatric Technician is a full-time position, 160 hours per a four-week period, 8.5- or 11-hour days, Monday-Friday, between 5: 00AM and 8: 00PM. Occasional travel up to 10% may be expected. Full benefits, including 17 days did vacation/sick leave and 10 paid Federal holidays.

DUTIES OF THE PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIAN:
  • Trained to intervene and, when required, to restrain violent or potentially violent or suicidal patients by verbal or physical means as required.
  • Assist with the management and treatment of outpatient behavioral health activities. The Psychiatric Technician is primarily responsible, under the supervision of a licensed psychiatrist, social worker, psychiatric nurse or psychologist, for providing a wide range of behavioral health interventions from prevention to treatment to individuals and who assigns work by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines, and provides guidance on assignments that do not have clear precedents.
  • Conduct intakes, assists with care and treatment of psychiatric, drug and alcohol patients, and counsel clients/patients with personal, behavioral or psychological problems, while under the supervision of a credentialed provider.
  • Perform a full range of work assignments and resolving a variety of non-recurring problems encountered on own initiative. Extensive guidelines are available;however, the contractor must use judgment in locating and selecting the most appropriate guideline for application to the work situation at hand. Unusual matters which may not be specifically covered by policy statements or published regulations shall be referred to supervisor.
  • Complete initial intake interviews and completed required forms for new patients on behalf of the licensed mental health provider, as needed.
  • Populate and maintain a computerized database which will contain the listing of all units within the HQ organization and identify the number of service members assigned to each unit/Directorate in order to compile monthly training statistics.
  • Update the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) and Behavioral Health training database monthly to calculate number of service members per unit who have completed the all required annual training.
  • Prepare daily correspondence (i.E., training agendas, meeting agendas, purchase orders, clinical appointments).
  • Collect and maintain monthly statistical data for the FAP/Social Work section.
  • Prepare and maintain attendance rosters and statistical data for all active duty personnel who attended Social Work/Behavioral Health overview sessions (i.E. Unit briefings and Commander training).
  • Prepare and maintain attendance rosters and statistical data for all civilians or family members who attend Behavioral Health workshops/classes/seminars.
  • Prepare bi-annual update to Social Work/Behavioral Health PowerPoint slide presentation.
  • Assist in developing program operating instructions and works with providers, to uncover inefficiencies and makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Develop and implement appointment templates for clinical providers.
  • Maintain hand receipts for physical property and inventory and place physical maintenance work orders.
  • Ensure proper supply stock levels and reorder as directed including specialized behavioral health forms and tests.
  • Assist or independently gather data for various presentations such as process improvements initiatives, longitudinal statistical tracking, hospitalizations, and discharges. Manipulate data and present it using off the shelf software applications.
  • Provide information via telephone and in person to the members of the Command, the professional staff, civilian and military personnel in response to inquiries regarding appointments.
  • Interface frequently with the Command s family support organizations.
  • Maintain competency folders in accordance with program policy.
  • Coordinate attendance and agenda at Case Review Committee with military and civilian agencies.
  • Coordinate and reserve meeting locations for on-site meetings, verify attendance and prepare current and tentative following weeks agenda.
  • Prepare open and closed case reports for required special handling of outpatient medical records in accordance with regulations.
  • Order and annotate case reviews in outpatient medical records.
  • Maintain a resource library for use by professional staff and customers. Library materials are selected with the intent of providing knowledge, ideas and support to practitioners in the fields of education, clinical social work and family studies.
  • In addition to the personal appearance standards given in the basic contract, the psychiatric technician shall maintain the personal appearance standards given in this paragraph. Uniform shall consist of a collared Polo-like shirt with Khaki-like pants, and footwear/outerwear appropriate for the work location.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIAN:
  • Degree: Certificate.
  • Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program;or completion of an equivalent education and experience that meets the requirement of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians or completion of education and experience as a behavioral science specialist/technician in the United States military and proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving psychiatric technician training or civilian course from an accredited school in the care of behavioral health patients.
  • One year of experience as a Psychiatric Technician after graduation.
  • Certification in Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Possess and maintain Basic Life Support certification.
  • Computer skill competency test required.
  • U.S. Citizen (required for access to Government computer systems).
  • Ability to be granted a Secret Security clearance.
