Job Description

Art Therapist to work in the Behavioral Health Clinic or sub-clinics (SARP, Deployment Wellness) at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC, providing care to Active Duty heroes, their families, and retirees. Art Therapist is a F-T position, working 8 or 10 hr shifts, Mon - Fri, between 6AM - 8PM.

DUTIES OF THE ART THERAPIST:
  • Provide assessment, treatment planning and implementation, evaluation, psychotherapy, and art therapy for patients as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team composed of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, social workers, nurses, and psychiatric technicians.
  • Conduct individual, group, and/or family expressive psychotherapy sessions for inpatient and outpatient clients, and foster positive therapeutic relationships with individual and group participants. Provide expert psychosocial assessments to assist the interdisciplinary treatment team in developing individualized treatment plans and diagnostic clarification. Facilitate sessions, using art and other expressive mechanisms as a vehicle for psychotherapy, to foster communication, problem solve, enhance self-esteem, assist in goal setting, provide a venue for the safe expression of emotions, and develop alternative resources to cope with overwhelming life circumstances.
  • Conduct clinical assessments of all clients referred for treatment, assisting medical staff in determining a clinical diagnosis of any mental health condition. Diagnoses will be based on criteria established in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association.
  • Foster a supportive climate to facilitate self-expression and group interaction.
  • Serve as an art therapy consultant and work with other departments within the medical center when needed.
  • Utilize art and other creative/expressive clinical modalities (e.G., music, poetry, drama, horticulture) to support treatment goals and improve patient outcomes.
  • Document patient assessments and interventions in patient records.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE ART THERAPIST:
  • Possess a Master s degree in Art Therapy from a school of Art Therapy accredited by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA).
  • Possess current certification as a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or pending registration from the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB).
    Possess a minimum experience of 2 years within the preceding 4 years as an Art Therapist.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to the HCW s skills as an Art Therapist. At least one letter must be from a workplace supervisor who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the Art Therapist' s skills in the care of patients.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen (for access to Gov' t computer systems)
